Asset Management

About Asset Management

African Alliance Asset Management is a pioneering African wealth manager, providing unique investment solutions to institutional and private investors based both locally and internationally.

Founded in Swaziland in 1996 and invited by a citizen empowerment group to Botswana in 1998 the business has since expanded organically into Kenya, Uganda and Lesotho as well as offering pan-African products out of our South African office. With assets under management of US$ 1 billion (as at 30 June 2011) our clients include governments, parastatals, pension and endowment funds, corporate institutions and non-government organisations.

The business is a member of the African Alliance Group which is privately owned by the founding partners and staff, aligning the interests of the business with that of our clients.

Institutional Investors

Our international reputation is driven by our consistent long term track record of value creation and client service.

This track record is supported by the breadth of our business and the Group's physical presence across the continent, providing us with a superior understanding of local African markets. These markets are charaterised by informational inefficiencies, presenting unique investment opportunities which are identified via our expansive physical African network of offices and professionals.

Our investment decisions are founded on deep research resources, and a long-term value-based investment philosophy. This is executed through bespoke portfolio construction tailored to our clients' balanced, equity, fixed income or cash mandates.

Our institutional investment vehicles include:

  • Segregated portfolios

  • Unitized portfolios

  • Listed funds

  • Structured products

For those institutional investors who are seeking pan-African exposure with a minimum investment of US$ 100,000, we offer bespoke products or our Dublin-listed Africa Pioneer Fund. For more details on such investment opportunities please refer to our pan-African products.

Private Investors

African Alliance Asset Management has pioneered unit trust markets across its physical African presence.

We were the first asset manager to launch unit trusts in Swaziland, Botswana, Kenya and Uganda as well as entering the Lesotho market. We are committed to fostering a culture of savings and the development of capital markets in Africa, and we believe that collective investment schemes are the most appropriate investment vehicles to achieve these objectives.

Our investment decisions are founded on deep research resources, and a long-term value-based investment philosophy. African Alliance's range of unit trusts offer investors:

  • Cost effective access to highly qualified and experienced investment professionals

  • Competitive returns

  • Liquidity and easy access to money

  • Diversified investment exposure

  • Convenient and flexible investing

  • Investor protection

Pan-African Products

In what is often referred to as the emerging market century, Africa can truly be considered the last great emerging market.

Consider that the African continent, the second largest in the world covering 20 percent of landmass, is home to approximately 15 percent of the world's population, and that its GDP is higher than that of India and similar to both Russia and Brazil. By 2050 1 in 5 people in the world are expected to live in Africa, and by 2030 50 percent of Africa's inhabitants are expected to live in urban areas. Increasing rates of urbanisation, labour force growth and higher productivity are leading to improved economic fundamentals, with 2010 being the 16th consecutive year of GDP growth across the continent. Africa, in short, is a compelling emerging investment story with a sustainable growth trajectory.

African Alliance's pan-African products are designed to provide investors with direct access to the emerging Africa opportunity. Backed by an experienced on-the-ground pan-Africa investment team, these investment products represent a unique opportunity to capitalise on the growth of the emerging African consumer in a structured and risk focused manner.
